Round Two - 7th June 2008
Away to Whitton Warriors 58 - 6
The under 12s played their first game of the Summer season at Richmond College, in the shadows of Twickenham Stoop. The Knights had 14 boys turn up and they played against a Whitton side who have been playing Rugby League for over a year now. The scoreline doesn't really tell the whole story because as the game went on, Aylesbury became more aware of how the game needs to be played and in the last 10 minutes played some great Rugby League, defending a set of six tackles on their own goal line and forcing the turnover. We lost Connor, our Hooker, in the first ten minutes which threw our positions out but the change in mentality for us came when we borrowed two of Whitton's props. They led the way, making the hard yards up the centre of the pitch and setting up the platform from which the dummy halves could operate and start moving the wall out to the wingers. This is something that we now need to work on and work out how to use our own props to our best advantage.
Whilst nobody likes losing, it is important that all the boys who played realise that the main objective of the game was to experience and enjoy Rugby League and to get a feel for what we do in training and how it relates to a game. We will improve and we will learn from the game so that our next fixture might yield some even more encouraging football.
